Frequently Asked Questions

Here we answer some of the questions we get asked the most. If you have any others or think we should add anything to this page, don't hesitate to contact us!

What are the UK delivery times?

All cables at Designacable are made to order, please choose a delivery method suitable for your needs and take into account Bank Holidays.

  • Free UK delivery on custom cable orders is a 6-7 day service. Please allow 3-4 days for dispatch and 2-3 days for delivery. In most cases orders will be delivered by Royal Mail 48.
  • Express UK delivery is a faster postage option. We will deliver within 4 days MAX, dispatch is 2-3 working days. We will use Royal Mail 24 or Next Day Courier, depending on which service is required to meet the 4-day commitment.
  • UK Next Day Guarantee is 'same day dispatch' on orders placed before 12pm, and delivered via Next Day Courier. We have limited this option to 10 cables, please contact us if you require more than 10 so we can advise on availability.

Please note that although we will manufacture and dispatch the cable in the desired time frame, we cannot guarantee that you will receive it the following day. Once it is with the couriers we have no control over it, they do aim to deliver the next day but this is not promised.

Do you deliver to EU?

All cables at Designacable are made to order, if you choose a fast courier delivery option we will always prioritise manufacturing for you and dispatch as soon as possible.

  • DDP Airmail - This service utilises Air and local postal services, and is 'Delivered Duty Paid'. There should be no taxes or VAT to pay on delivery if the total order total is less than £135. Our delivery estimates are based on average delivery times, so please be patient when using Airmail services.
  • FAST Courier Services are available. Please read the delivery terms and delivery estimates carefully and select a delivery method that best suits your need. You will see an estimate of fees and taxes to pay on delivery, should there be any.

  • Items must be unused and coiled neatly for postage.
  • Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.
  • Refunds are credited back within 3 days to the original payment method.
  • We do not accept returns on custom made items where a design has been specified or where items have been ordered in on request.
  • If your parcel arrives with shipping damage, please refuse delivery. If you have already accepted delivery, please contact us straight away.
  • For any customisation (labels, or coloured boots for example), 10% of the refund is charged as a restocking fee.

Can I order a specific cable length?

Yes. Order the closest length to what you need, preferably rounding up, and message us after you have made the purchase so we can manually adjust your order. The best way to message is to respond to the ‘Confirmation’ email you receive for your order, it comes directly to sales.

Why does my item say ‘Available for Pre-Order’?

This is because we are currently out of stock of a component that is used in the production of that cable. Please contact us to find out when the item will be available or to explore alternatives.

Where is my item?

Tracking information is sent with your dispatch email/notification. Please be patient, free UK delivery and Standard International is a standard service and on occasion may take longer to arrive than we have forecasted.

If you need your items for a specific date, please choose an Express Service so we know that you are in a hurry. We always fulfil Express Orders the same day if ordered before 12pm (Monday to Friday). Please take into account UK Bank Holidays when placing an order.

My order hasn't arrived

If your order hasn’t arrived in the UK within 2 weeks from receiving the dispatch email, then please contact us so we are aware of the issue and chase it up for you.

If you are an international customer, please be patient because orders will take longer to arrive.

How do you measure cables?

All of our cables are cut @ +13cm. So a 2m cable is cut at 2m13cm. This allows for the loses inside a connector. Therefore, a 2m cable will have approximately 2m of visible cable on show. In our workshop we always ensure cables 75cm or shorter are precise. So a 50cm cable will have 50cm of cable on show. Longer cables may vary by 2-8cm depending on the types of connectors used.

Are you a physical store? Can I collect from your premises?

We are an online retailer and do not have a physical shop. You can however collect from our premises, just make sure to order online and let us know in advance that you are coming to collect.

If you do live locally and wish to collect, bear in mind that the cables are made-to-order and it is unlikely they will be available the same day. Please allow a few days for manufacturing and we will contact you when the order is ready, usually via email.

Components can be quicker to collect but again we will need some time to put the order together, usually a few hours. If you are unsure contact us before ordering.

Balanced, or unbalanced?

We recommend going balanced to balanced or unbalanced to unbalanced, to keep the connections the same and stop any potential interference problems.

On that note, we do manufacture a Pseudo Balanced range of leads that are cleverly wired to minimize noise interference, which is inherent when connecting unbalanced equipment to balanced equipment. These high-quality cables are wired to our own specification, with the screen only being connected on one side of the cable. This eliminates the risk of induced hum and noise (ground loops). The unused pin inside the XLRs is wired to the screen inside the RCA/Jack, which reduces unwanted noise and signal degradation at the input stage.

If you would prefer the leads to be wired to your own specification to keep in line with your own grounding scheme, then please do not hesitate to contact us. We are more than happy to change the wiring to suit.

Electronic drum cables: are they different?

Essentially, no. The products in the Rudiment eDrum cables range are either TS (mono) cables for single zone triggers, or TRS (stereo) for dual zone triggers and pads. The TS (mono) cables are the same cables essentially used for guitars, basses and keyboards, and the TRS (stereo) the same that we offer for mixers, amps etc.

The splitter cables get a little more complex: some Roland modules require a special cable with a resistor fitted, but most of the others should be fine with a standard one when going from a dual zone input to two signal zone pads.

Of course, if you are unsure of your requirements please don’t hesitate to contact us.
