We used to build this as a simple 63A to 32A adapter. It worked, but we decided we'd rather build the protection into the adapter than rely on it being somewhere else in the system. This version incorporates a dedicated 32A Type C circuit breaker alongside genuine PCE connectors, H07RN-F 5G6mm² cable and a weatherproof WISKA enclosure. Need to power 32A three-phase equipment from a 63A supply?
This protected 63A to 32A adapter incorporates a dedicated 32A Type C circuit breaker, rather than relying entirely on protection elsewhere in the system. It is built using genuine PCE IEC 60309 connectors, H07RN-F 5G6mm² cable and a WISKA enclosure, then individually inspected and electrically tested in our Nottingham workshop.
Why we build it this way
We used to offer a straightforward 63A to 32A adapter.
It did exactly what it was designed to do: convert a 63A connection into a 32A outlet.
The issue was that the protection available to the connected equipment depended entirely on what was feeding the 63A supply. If suitable 32A protection already existed upstream, that was fine. If the incoming supply was only protected at 63A, a fault on the 32A side could leave the connected equipment without the level of protection it required.
In the end, we decided we'd rather build the protection into the adapter than rely on it being somewhere else.
This version includes its own CHINT 32A Type C three-pole circuit breaker inside a WISKA enclosure, providing appropriate downstream protection as part of the assembly.
It is larger than the original adapter and costs more to build, but it is the version we recommend today because it is the version we would choose ourselves.
Built around proven industrial components
The input uses a genuine PCE 63A 5-pole plug, while the output uses a genuine PCE 32A 5-pole connector. Both are 400V, 6h IEC 60309 components designed for demanding industrial and temporary-power applications.
Power is carried through H07RN-F 5G6mm² flexible rubber cable. This cable type is widely used for temporary power because it remains flexible while standing up to repeated handling, transport and outdoor working conditions.
The circuit breaker is housed inside a WISKA INDUBOX enclosure with a clear inspection window. This keeps the protection accessible without turning the assembly into a full distribution board.
Inside the enclosure, the cable is secured using a LAPP SKINTOP BS-M spiral strain-relief gland and an additional internal cable-retention component. This helps prevent the weight and movement of the cable being transferred directly onto the electrical terminations.
These are not the most visible parts of the product, but they are exactly why we build these assemblies ourselves.

Built and tested in Nottingham
Every adapter is built to order in our Nottingham workshop. The cable is cut, stripped and terminated by hand before the enclosure, circuit breaker and strain-relief components are assembled.
The completed assembly is then visually inspected and electrically tested before dispatch.
Because we manufacture these ourselves, alternative cable lengths and related protected power configurations are also available.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this different from a standard 63A to 32A adapter?
A standard 63A to 32A adapter simply changes the connector size. This version also incorporates a dedicated 32A Type C circuit breaker, providing downstream protection rather than relying solely on protection fitted to the incoming supply.
Why does the adapter need a 32A circuit breaker?
The 32A connector and connected equipment should be protected at an appropriate rating. If the only protection in the system is rated at 63A, it may not provide suitable protection for the 32A side of the assembly. Building a 32A breaker into the adapter removes that uncertainty.
Do you still supply the unprotected version?
No. We decided we would rather build the required protection into the adapter than rely on it being provided somewhere else in the system. This protected version is the one we now recommend.
Can this adapter be used outdoors?
The PCE connectors and WISKA enclosure are designed for demanding industrial environments. Their stated IP ratings depend on the components being correctly assembled, fully mated and used appropriately. The assembly should not be left in standing water or used where damage to the enclosure or connectors is present.
Can you build it in another length?
Yes. Each assembly is built to order, with a range of cable lengths available. For another configuration or a length not shown, please contact us before ordering.
