If you're building or repairing EV charging equipment, a normal three-core mains lead doesn't always give you everything you need.
This 1.8 metre Viper EV charging cable gives you three 2.5mm² power conductors, a separate 0.5mm² pilot core and temperature sensing built into the moulded UK plug. It's supplied with bare ends at the equipment side, ready to be terminated into compatible EV charging equipment.
It's a fairly specialist cable, and that's the point. We had the Viper plug moulded directly onto our EV cable so you don't have to start with a generic mains lead and try to make it do a job it wasn't designed for.
Why we build it this way
The cable uses flexible Class 5 copper conductors with three 2.5mm² cores for live, neutral and earth, plus a separate orange 0.5mm² pilot core. EPR core insulation and a PUR outer jacket give us a cable construction developed specifically around EV charging applications rather than ordinary appliance flex.
Inside the moulded plug we've incorporated a genuine Vishay NTCLE350E4103GLB0 10kΩ thermistor. Compatible charging equipment can use the change in thermistor resistance to monitor temperature at the plug rather than relying solely on what's happening further down the charging system.
The plug itself is permanently overmoulded onto the cable using Enflex VO-574-70A TPE-V elastomer, giving you an integrated cable entry and strain relief rather than a conventional rewireable plug fitted onto the end.
Is this the right cable?
This isn't a universal replacement mains lead. It's intended for EV charging equipment designed to work with the additional pilot conductor and 10kΩ temperature-sensing thermistor.
If your equipment only needs live, neutral and earth, you probably don't need this. Our standard moulded plug to H07RN-F cable is the simpler option. If your EV charging equipment requires the additional pilot and temperature-sensing connections, this is the version we'd look at.

Why does the plug have a thermistor?
The integrated 10kΩ NTC thermistor provides a temperature-dependent resistance that compatible EV charging equipment can use to monitor temperature at the mains plug. Whether and how that signal is used depends on the equipment you're connecting it to.
What is the orange conductor?
It's the separate 0.5mm² pilot core provided alongside the three 2.5mm² power conductors. Its exact connection depends on the EV charging equipment being installed.
Do I need this instead of a normal mains cable?
Only if your equipment is designed for it. If you simply need live, neutral and earth, we'd normally point you towards the standard H07RN-F version instead. This cable earns its keep when the EV equipment also requires the pilot and temperature-sensing connections.
